It's hard to keep up weekly random facts about Maplestory so I've started writing articles.
Due to the difficulty of coming up with a new and unique article every week, I've decided it would be more helpfuly if I started writing articles about Maplestory instead. There will not be a new article every week, they will be posted at random times, but I will Constantly be working on new articles as ideas come up. Feel free to visit the article site I will be posting at here.
The "did you know" facts will be kept up for people to see and read. They aren't bad facts, just too hard to keep new ones coming.

As you might or might not know, every so often jr. boogies show up on the map. These creatures have a really high avoid making them really difficult to hit for low accuracy or low leveled players. If they get too hard to deal with, you can go to the top of the map and attack one of the stones to "scare" them away.

Many worlds in most every version of Maplestory are named after constellations. This is especially true of Maplestory SEA where every world, but their ninth world is named after a constellation. Their ninth world is named 'Izar' which is a star and not a constellation. Many people believed it was going to be called 'Indus'to keep with the tradition.

For those playing a version of maplestory without arans, the puppeteer is one of the many quest bosses you encounter and fight throughout your story as an aran.
it takes a little bit of effort, but if you look closely to the shadow of hiw hood, the puppeteer's hair is green.

Believe it or not, the attack speed of hurricane is not at all dependant on the Bowmaster's weapon's attack speed. This means that unlike most every other physically damaging attack by every other class, the attack speed of hurricane is the same irregardless of the weapon used.

The Creatures known(at least in GMS) as water goblins, located shortly before himes, a.k.a. dreamy ghosts, resemble a group of creatures in Japanese folklore known as kappa. kappa's favorite food, as pointed out by the link supplied, other than human children are supposedly cucumbers. it's kind of funny that the water goblins also drop cucumbers.
Many creatures, npcs(non-player characters) and quests resemble things from myths and folklore from around the world.

it seems that SE doesn't give a second chance for a critical for those jobs that already have one as some people believe, but actually increases the existing one.
for example, a ranger's critical is a 40% chance to do 200% damage. with max SE cast those numbers raise to a 55% chance of doing 340% damage.

If you pay attention to the quest you do to get through the third job advancement, you learn that the boss you fight really is the dark side, or dark half of the first job instructor him/herself. Some may even have a story as to how they managed to seal off they're dark side and why they are locked in those warped paces. Would't be nice if we could seal off the dark side of ourselves like that in real life?

through a list of quests, we can learn that Bob the snail appears to be older than Grendel the really old. Suprisingly enough, Grendel, himself apearently is over 1000 years old. that being said, Bob the snail is not the oldest snail, Mano, a mini-boss found between lith harbor and henesys is the oldest snail in Maplestory

though many people have access to the answers through onlines sites, if you fail the quiz required to reach the third job advancement, you have to use another dark crystal to try again.

though the exact amount of mp you get is a little random and dependant on your class/job, having extra int when you level(including that through equipment) will get you more mp for that level up.
In general, every extra 10 int you have, after and including 11 will net you 1 more mp point. this means 11 int gets you 1 extra mp, 21 for 2, and so on.
this information is the basis for many strategies like hp washing, as well as the reason mages have such high mp.

this might not be the case in every version of maplestory, but it most likely is. even if the wait time for an area boss to spawn(apear on the map) it will not until at least one monster on the map is killed. After this, thext next time monsters spawn on the map, the boss should spawn also.

the find command (/find in GMS and probably all english based versions) will not always show what map a character is in. Many quest only maps will often have "(username) is in the event map" instead of the actual map they are in. Also, at least for GMS, if you are on the same channel as the character and that character is in the mts, it will say the character is not logged in.

whether it's from skills, items or other effects, any "buff" that affects a stat in the same way as another will override or replace out the earlier buff.
For example, if you were to have a priest or bishop cast bless on you (adds to def, m.def, acc and avoid) then you use an item that gives you accuracy, like a sniper pill, the accuracy effects of bless gets replaced by the effects of the accuracy pills.
However, if one buff affects a stat directly (such as an warrior potion) and another affects the same stat by a % (such as echo) the 2 CAN work at the same time, affecting eachother directly.

though the general etc. drops from a monster generally will stay the same, it is far from unheard of for almost anything that would normally be dropped from am onster to be changed, removed or added to. Usually this would happen during a patch, but it has also happened during a server check.
On the same note, the chance that any given item will be dropped can be changed as well. One server check it could be common, and the next, not as commonly found.

Although you can not sell anything in a shop that would get you over max mesos, nor will a trade work, any mesos that have been dropped can still be picked up after you have max mesos. For those who are doing well on making mesos and use their main characters for their meso making efforts, this is something to know. To help prevent this possible loss of mesos, you can put mesos in your stash., or even on another character. It's easiest to do this on the same account.

Though most mos monsters only attack or damage you when you run into them or attack them first, there are some monsters that "auto aggro." This means they will attack as soon as you are in range of their attacks. Many boss class monsters will do this as well as a number of stationary (unmoving) monsters. When going to a new area, it's good to be aware of this just in case.

for mages, elemental skills get a starting bonus of 50% more damage to monsters weak to the element of their skills. But White Knights and Paladins don't get the full 50% damage bonus from their charge skills until the skill is maxed. for the white knight skills, level 1 starts with a 106.5% bonus and the paladin's holy charge starts at 121.5% bonus.

Unless there is a quest specifically asking for them, gems and crystals that have been "strengthened" by using the maker skill can no longer be used for quests that require those particular gems or crystals. If you "strengthened" all your gems or crystals and now need to do a quest, you will need to find another to complete the quest.

through black magic used on cursed dolls a long, long time ago, Grendel indirectly created the Zombie lupins (check the cursed doll quests for more information).... how they continue to procreate is still a little uncertain.

Though it is more than possible to go past 1000 points in any particular stat, the most you can have as your base (unmodified) is 999, which you can achieve, at earliest, level 196. most people will likely never have to worry about this.

Though many people in GMS's windia already know Seaserpen's "main character", krystara, is a female character. Krystara is Seaserpen's second olest character, his oldest being the Character Seaserpen, himself. When he started Maple Story, Seaserpen decided to make 2 accounts "for more naming choices." some people think Seaserpen did this just so he could cross dress in game.

Using 1 stiff feather and 1 procesed wood with the item maker npc, Vicious, in henesys, you can make regular arrows. you can even buy regular arrows from various npcs. for those who have access to showa, you can even buy arrows with 4 attack from the general merchant.

for those who have heard these terms.... until around level 100, putting all points into a character's main stat will most often make it stronger than a "normal" build(adding to the secondary stat) with similar quality equipment. After that, it all depends on the quality of the equipment being used. This isn't quite as true for warriors, provided they can get enough accuracy from their equipment.

some equipment, mostly dark equipment, requires fame to equip. usually around 20 fame is all you need to equip. Dark equipment often has slightly better stats then it's same level counterparts.

Timeless and reverse weapons, which are made through the maker skill, can level up. each level up can add more stats to the piece of equipment. timeless weapons even have a chance to add a bonus point to a skill (when equipped) at levels 4 and 7. Timeless items level up 6 times in total and reverse levels up 3 times. you level them by levelling your own character.

the Thief's Lucky 7s skill has a built in mastery of 55%. Though not as good as the second job advancement's mastery skill at max level, it allows for more stable damage than other physical damage classes in the first job advancement.
